Learn more about our professional baseball coaches. About Us Coach Henry Martinez is the Head Baseball Coach of Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland and Director of 5 Star Mid-Atlantic MD. He has won several awards and championships throughout his career. For more than 5 years, Coach Henry has taken groups to the Dominican Republic to train and compete against some of the best academies in the country. Along with playing baseball, his high school group led several community service projects such as renovating fields, repairing homes in the community, volunteering at orphanages, donating equipment to youth sports groups, and funding a scholarship to help two young women complete their college and graduate degrees. Coach Henry has partnered with the Juan Uribe Academy to create Camp Palenquero. Camp Palenquero aspires to create the same impact for players, families, and serving the needs of the local community. Learn more about our unique baseball camp in the heart of the Dominican Republic Camp Palenquero is a baseball camp located in the San Cristobal province of the Dominican Republic and specializes in athletic sports performance from ages 5 - current college athletes. We welcome players of all levels and focus on maximizing skill development and teaching the passionate style of Dominican baseball. Athletes will participate in a series of sports-specific exercises along with speed and agility training and strength conditioning. While at camp, athletes will get to experience Dominican culture through guided tours of historic sites, visiting beautiful beaches, and sampling local cuisine. This camp is a great opportunity for players to have fun and show off their skills while gaining life changing experiences. Families are welcome to join their players for a shared experience of all that the Dominican Republic has to offer. Please contact us for more information on how families can be involved. General Information Camps are offered from one week to over a month. Although players will enhance their skills in a week, players will see significant improvement in their ability after a full month. Sessions start June 1st and run through August 30th. Arrival each week is on Sunday and departure each week is on Sunday or Monday. We offer discounts for teams and groups of 4 or more players traveling together. Prices will vary. Do I need a passport? Yes, you need a passport to visit the Dominican Republic. You will have to fill out an e-ticket for arrival and departure. To fill out an e-ticket, please visit https://eticket.migracion.gob.do Do I need a visa? U.S. citizens must have a valid U.S. passport to enter the Dominican Republic. No visa is required for stays less than 6 months if you have an onward or return ticket, confirmation of accommodation, and can produce evidence of your ability to maintain yourself. Do I need to know how to speak Spanish? You do not need to know how to speak Spanish. However, knowing Spanish is a plus. Is the Dominican Republic safe? Yes, the Dominican Republic is safe. The Sabana Palenque area is well known for its welcoming and friendly family culture. What should I pack? All athletes will receive a detailed list of what to pack which will include baseball cleats, baseball pants, glove, swimsuit, sandals, towel, sunscreen, toiletries, change of clothes, sneakers, spending money to purchase souvenirs, water bottle, etc. What is the food like? Food will consist of several Dominican style cuisines that includes but is not limited to rice, beans, chicken, beef, fish, salami, plantains, yuca (cassava), cheese, sandwiches, pasta, etc. Beverages will consist of but is not limited to fresh fruits such as passion fruit, lime, lemon, strawberry, mango, apple, cranberry etc. Where will I stay? Players will stay in Residencial Diserica which is in Sabana Palenque. The training facility is a 2 minute drive and 12 minute walk. The residence is also only a 12 minute walk from Playa Palenque. What if I get sick or injured? Hospital de Nizao is open 24 hours and is just a short 15 minute car ride from camp. Financial payment of any treatment is the responsibility of the patient and their family. You may want to consider purchasing traveler's insurance.
